NextAid is a dance-music based nonprofit organization committed to developing and implementing innovative sustainable solutions to the challenges facing African children.

Om Records has been a long-time supporter of NextAid, starting with the 2005 release of reBOOT: Notes for the Next Generation benefit compilation. Om has joined with NextAid and graciously adopted a project at the Dennilton site.

In 2005, in partnership with Youth with a Vision, a South Africa-based nonprofit, NextAid began work on a community center and children’s residential village in the poverty-stricken town of Dennilton, two hours NE of Johannesburg. So far, 16 structures have been completed. The ecological village will serve as a safe home for 30 children, a multi-purpose center for the entire community, and a model of best practices for future projects.

The House of Om will be a safe, comfortable, loving four-bedroom home for 6 children who have lost their parents to AIDS, and an adult caretaker. The house will be built using natural building methods. Examples of sustainable techniques used in the construction of the Dennilton village are hybrid systems of compressed-earth blocks and earthbags and metal roofs with water catchment gutters and cisterns.

We have until the end of the year to reach out goal of $29,000. You can help by donating and spreading the word. Grab the HTML code for the widget or copy the link to this page and post it on MySpace, your website, Facebook, or forums. Your efforts WILL make a difference!
